A Look Back At The 2024-25 School Year

Dear San Bruno Park School District Families,

As the 2024–2025 school year concludes, we reflect on a year filled with growth, creativity, and community. The San Bruno Education Foundation (SBEF), a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to the success of our students, has been at the heart of this progress—providing programs and resources that enrich our students’ educational experiences.

This year, SBEF invested over $400,000 in programs that extend beyond the standard curriculum, including music education, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) initiatives, and teacher development in reading and math instruction. These efforts are especially critical in a district where recent results from the California Accountability System show progress in English and Math since the pandemic, but overall student performance still falls below state standards.

To help all children better engage in curriculum, level up, or pursue their interests, we’ve made investments in each school throughout the district.

At Allen, we helped to support the new school garden program, from the building of the garden to the life sciences program delivered by the garden teacher. We also supported afterschool programs across our elementary schools, including drama and Lego Robotics.

At Belle Air, we supported the school’s partnership with Each Green Corner for its garden and life sciences program, and also helped to spruce up the fields around the school. Further, we supported the school in building out a Zen Den, to provide psychosocial support for students when they need it. We also supported afterschool programs across our elementary schools, including drama and Lego Robotics.

At John Muir, we provided funding to implement much-needed improvements to the field, so now John Muir students can use the fields for recess and P.E., and local youth soccer and sports leagues can use them for practices and games. We supported afterschool programs across our elementary schools, including drama and Lego Robotics.

At Parkside, we invested deeply in the school’s music program, providing funding for the band teacher, musical instruments and other supplies. We also supported many of the enrichment programs that keep the kids learning and engaged after school, such as Lego Robotics, STEM Fair, and drama. We also supported efforts to help elementary families learn about all that Parkside has to offer, such as helping to sponsor and organize Panther Pride Day.

At Portola, we supported the buildout of the school’s new STEAM room and look forward to supporting the continued growth of the school’s program next year by helping to support a new STEAM teacher. We also supported afterschool programs across our elementary schools, including drama and Lego Robotics.

We look forward to continuing our support in these areas and building on it with your support next year.

Your support makes these programs possible. A monthly donation of $10 can fund music classes for five students. A contribution of $50 per month can expand STEAM programs and provide essential resources for our teachers.

Please consider making a donation here. Donors contributing $120 or more in one-time or total annual donations will be recognized as SBEF Advocates, and those donating $600 or more will become SBEF Champions. Each will receive a car decal and Champions also receive a complimentary ticket to our annual gala.

Together, we can continue to provide enriching educational opportunities for all students in the San Bruno Park School District. Thank you for being part of our community, and we wish  you a joyful and learning-filled summer.

With gratitude,

Heather Latta, SBEF President
